Advantages of Graphite Powder
- East Carbon graphite powder has exceptional purity levels making it chemically inert and corrosion resistant.
- Owing to the size of its particles, graphite powder has a relatively larger surface area, which enhances its efficiency.
- Its friction coefficient is extremely low making it your perfect dry lubricant.
- Graphite powder can serve you diligently for years despite exposure to high temperatures.
- It is chemically inactive thus you can use it for various applications.
- Its high conducting properties qualify its use in various electronics.

Graphite Powder Grades
· Natural Graphite Powder
Natural graphite powder is mined from naturally available graphite mines in the form of crystals. It is consequently ground to generate graphite powder with a purity grade surpassing 99.95%. It is often used as a lubricant and in foundry facings.
· Synthetic Graphite Powder
This grade is manufactured artificially by undertaking various precursors carrying carbon through high-temperature processes. As such, it demonstrates a more consistent quality grade compared to natural graphite powder. This qualifies its use in sensitive applications like manufacturing lithium-ion batteries.
· Chemical Structure
Just like typical graphite, the chemical composition of graphite powder consists of smaller carbon atoms affixed together by van der Waals forces. It is also chemically stable and this permits its use in handling reactive chemicals. Additionally, graphite powder can withstand oxidation under typical conditions.
· Conductivity
Graphite still maintains its conductivity even after it is pounded to produce graphite powder. This is enabled by the delocalized electrons synonymous with graphite. It is also widely used in thermal management applications due to its impeccable thermal conductivity.
· Lubricity
Graphite powder is also characterized by a slippery feel, which is a consequence of the weak forces binding its atoms. As such, these atoms glide over one another thereby making graphite powder ideal for dry lubrication.
· Color
Graphite powder has a characteristic dark grey color, which can at times appear to be black. The variation in color shade is a consequence of the difference in light absorption.
- Sourcing: For natural graphite powder, graphite ore is first mined from natural mines, which can be open-pit or underground. For synthetic powder, the first step involves preparing the carbon-carrying precursors.
- Crushing: The extracted graphite ore is then grounded to produce smaller pieces. For synthetic graphite, the respective precursors are heated at roughly 2000°C resulting in the generation of graphite.
- Milling: Subsequently, the smaller pieces of graphite ore produced after the crushing process are further ground to produce graphite powder. Similarly, the synthetic graphite produced is also crushed to produce finer particles.
- Purification: The resulting powder is then purified to dislodge undesired elements.
- Packaging: The purified graphite powder is ultimately packaged and readied for supply.
